- Numerous organizations that express concerns about the safety of aloe vera gel intake often err by including effects of whole leaf products known to contain aloins. Aloins are found in aloe latex, a bitter yellow sap from the outer skin of the leaf. Aloe latex is an OTC laxative drug. A high quality aloe vera gel product should contain less than 10 ppm aloins. Mannatech’s products containing aloe vera gel powders have been tested for aloins by a qualified independent laboratory. This laboratory, which was able to detect aloins at levels as low as 0.6 ppm, was not able to detect it in any of our products.
